WESTFIELD COMMUNITY SCHOOL UNIFORM

9 March 2010

Dear Parent/GuardianBlazers

I wrote to you in January advising that the school’s development plan this year included a review of uniform.  The options under consideration were to retain the current uniform; modify the current uniform; or change to a different style of uniform. The letter also included information about a consultation meeting for parents.

Having considered a wide range of evidence, including opinion and comments from parents, teachers and students, the Governing Body have decided to change Westfield’s uniform.  The new style of uniform will comprise a black badged blazer and school tie for all students from September 2011.

The academic year 2010-2011 will be a transition year between the current school uniform and the new style of uniform and will affect current year groups in the following ways:

  • Year 6 joining Westfield in September 2010 – Will be expected to wear the new style uniform.
  • Years 7 to 10 – May wear either the current uniform or the new style uniform from September 2010 but must wear the new style uniform from September 2011.

Our uniform shop at school will be the sole supplier of badged items, i.e. blazer and tie, and these items will be available to purchase from June 2010.  All other items may be obtained from other retailers.  From September 2011 we plan to run a “second hand” uniform service.

We have a small stock of the existing uniform available to purchase and may be able to order further small quantities.  Orders must be placed by 28 May 2010 – we cannot guarantee further supplies after this date.

Details of the new uniform appear below.

Yours faithfully

Chris Hunt

Principal

 Warm Summer Weather

  • Blazers and ties must be worn at all times, but in exceptionally warm summer weather the Principal may announce that blazers and ties need not be worn.

The school uniform at Westfield Community School is compulsory.  We require all parents to ensure that their children wear the appropriate uniform as laid out in the regulations.  Firm action will be taken if pupils do not adhere to the uniform regulations.

We hope this will help parents to ensure that all pupils are in correct uniform.  We believe that our uniform is sensible and reasonable and we do greatly appreciate parents’ cooperation over this matter.
