Three students from Westfield Community School have recently taken part in the Councillor Shadowing Programme, organised by the Youth of Today, who are part of the British Youth Council.
Meghna Dwyer, Georgina Marks and Jake Perrett are all in Year 9 at Westfield and the programme required them to take part in five sessions, each focusing on a different part of the Council. They concentrated on building good leadership skills, with different sessions centering on different qualities. The highlight of the programme was a trip to London during which they watched the Queen in the procession to open Parliament.
At the end of the programme the students delivered a presentation about their experiences and what they had enjoyed in particular. Present in the audience was Henry Tapp, a British Youth Council representative, who had travelled from London to give a speech. The 3 students were very pleased to meet Henry as he had supported the programme from its conception.
Meghna, Georgina and Jake thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend that others grab the opportunity with both hands if given the chance.
