The wonderful Lionel Bart musical is always a challenge, but the teachers involved in this production, in drama, dance, music and costume, had an even tougher task by having only four weeks of rehearsals. However, the students proved themselves to be committed and determined, and gave up many hours to ensure this production was of a very high standard. The show involved almost one hundred students and some staff, with performances went taking place on three consecutive nights. On one of the evenings some of the lead parts were played by the understudies, thus giving more students the opportunity to shine – and they certainly did. Both staff and students displayed superb singing voices as well as acting talent, and despite the difficulty of the songs, the band played with energy and skill, and the back-stage crew proved themselves reliable and efficient.
