Singer Songwriter Kate Nash Visits School

Brit Award winner visits Westfield!

Students were invited to a really special event at the end of last term.

Singer-songwriter, Kate Nash, gave an inspiring talk to our budding musicians and then treated them to an acoustic performance of a song off her latest album.

Kate’s debut album, Made of Bricks, made the number one spot in 2007 and she then won Best Female Artist at the Brit Awards in 2008.

Westfield is one of just five schools across the country that have been selected to take part in Kate’s project, which aims to nurture young musical talent. Kate has a
particular interest in encouraging girls to get involved and has concerns about the lack of female singer-songwriters. Several students were also interviewed as part of a
documentary Kate is making about the role of women in the music industry.

But Kate’s inspirational visit to the school is just the start of it! She plans to visit us again over the coming months, to run song-writing workshops – culminating in a concert where students will get to perform their own music, live on stage.  Watch this space!
